Laser alignment of pumps
Laser shaft alignment. The industrial standard for vibration-free pump operation, reducing wear and the risk of failure.
More than 50% of pump unit failures are caused by shaft misalignment
Failure statistics show that alignment costs far less than replacing bearings, mechanical seals and couplings worn by misalignment.
Why misalignment occurs
Pump and motor shafts become misaligned when a surface or shaft deviates from its design position. Excessive forces and moments cause displacement in several parts of the pumping system, which in turn increases the resulting forces and moments.
Shaft misalignment causes vibration and higher stresses, leading to premature wear of bearings, seals and couplings.
Coupling misalignment heats bearings through friction and vibration. Their service life is reduced, wear becomes uneven and performance deteriorates quickly. In severe cases, it can cause cracks in the pump casing, increased noise and shaft breakage.

Consequences of shaft misalignment
- Higher costs and equipment downtime.
- Increased vibration.
- Increased bearing load.
- Reduced bearing service life.
- Higher noise levels.
Benefits of timely alignment
- Lower vibration levels.
- Longer time between failures.
- Lower maintenance costs.
- Reduced energy consumption.
How alignment is performed
Our specialists use laser instruments for alignment, delivering greater accuracy than dial indicators and less time on site.
Checking the foundation, supports and coupling, then correcting soft foot.
A laser instrument measures radial and angular shaft misalignment.
Adjusting the unit position with shims and lateral movement until it is within tolerance.
Final measurement and a report with readings before and after the work.
Alignment is included in pump unit service and repair and in the service maintenance packages schedule, so shaft alignment is checked routinely rather than after vibration appears.
